Set in the 1920s, this classic of the American musical theatre is a tribute to the lost but thrilling world of American vaudeville and burlesque, as well as dealing with the loving but sometimes tumultuous relationship between mothers and daughters. In its essence, Gypsy is the American musical that most successfully covers the rise of an 'ugly duckling', who eventually becomes one of American burlesques' most celebrated and famous stars - Miss Gypsy Rose Lee.
